If I was a parent the kind of parent I would like to be able to be is an understanding one. I think for parents it’s important to be understanding to our children. For example I think that when we get older the new generation grows up completely different from how we did. For instance my parents never had a phone and because of that they didn’t understand that every high schooler had a phone. I don’t blame them for this because they don’t understand that the times have changed compared to the days when they were kids. I mainly want to be an understanding parent so that I can better understand my children. Another trait I would want to have when it comes to me being a parent would be unwavering and firm. What I mean by that is that I hope I learn to say no to my children because if I don’t they’ll just walk all over me. A future example of this would be if my kid asked me to buy her a phone i would understand but i would give her a goal to reach in order for her to get the phone he or she wants. I think it’s important to be firm and unwavering because if you aren’t then your kid would likely grow up to be a person you wouldn’t be proud of. Finally I would like to be comforting dad because I think it’s important for your kid to come to you when they are feeling a type of way. I think this will be difficult because I never had someone I can talk about my feelings nor would I ever want for people to see me like that. But looking back I’m glad that it didn’t mess me up as a person because now that I think about it I think I could’ve grown up to be completely different person.
